About the Course

Energy is a strategic and dynamic area of governments’ policy. It fuels our economies and productive systems. On the other hand, governments face crucial challenges in responding to climate change risks. At the same time, Governments are supporting the energy transition through green policies and tools, seeking to promote job creation, economic growth, and competitiveness in key sectors such as industry and transport. With the energy transition on the top of the agenda within the energy sector, a more efficient and sustainable energy system is required.

Nearly 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions emerge from energy production and use, with 25 percent generated by electricity and heat production, 21 percent from industry, 14 percent from transportation, and 10 percent from miscellaneous energy. Considering these facts, the energy sector is pointed out as a significant contributor to Co2 emissions. As we know, fossil fuels are a limited resource, and their consumption adversely affects the earth’s climate. Most countries are considering or pursuing an “energy transition” in which clean energy sources replace fossil fuels. This Governing Energy Transitions training course aims to undertake a balanced plan in which the “energy trilemma” concept: energy security, energy equity, and environmental sustainability is pursued.

Core Objectives

After completing this course, each delegate will have gained 25% of vital skills in dealing with energy transitions and their complexity.

The delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the global pathways of energy transition toward low carbon economies
  • Gain knowledge to analyse the low carbon energy transitions occurring in some leading countries
  • Increase effectiveness when engaging in strategy/policy-focused discussions related to energy transitions
  • Understand the governance approaches to support energy transitions
  • Understand the complexity of the energy systems
  • Improve skills on sustainable/clean energies and their socio-economic benefits and environmental advantages
Training Approach

This Governing Energy Transitions training course will combine presentations with practical exercises supported by video material and case studies. The delegates will be encouraged to participate actively in the questions & and answers sessions.
