About the Course

Environmental impact assessment aims to identify risks and potential environmental impacts of projects, programs, and legislative actions and propose means to avoid or reduce the significant consequences. This is used as a tool for decision-makers to help them decide whether to proceed with a specific project or not. Environmental impact assessment is crucial for mega projects such as marine projects and marine transportation.

Marine engineering, including coastal and port engineering, is one of the most essential engineering branches. Maritime transport is a key driver of growth and employment. Movements of people, goods, and information have always been fundamental components of human societies.

This 5-day Environmental Impact Assessment of Marine Projects & Transportation training course focuses on the environmental impact assessment of coastal projects, port projects, and marine transportation. It will enable the delegates to understand the concepts of EIA in general and EIA applications to marine projects, particularly with the different coastal structures and their environmental impacts. This will introduce the idea of green ports and solutions for some environmental problems in the ports to be Green Ports. It also includes the hazards and impacts of marine transportation and how to maintain sustainable shipping and assure a safe environment.

Core Objectives

The delegates will achieve the following objectives:

  • Understand principles and process of environmental impact assessment (EIA)
  • Identify the impacts of coastal projects and ports on the environment
  • Know how to mitigate and manage the adverse effects on coastal projects and ports
  • Comprehend the concept of green ports and how to get the ports to be green
  • Know marine transportation and its hazards and environmental impacts
Training Approach

This training course will combine presentations with instructor-guided interactive discussions between delegates relating to their interests. Practical exercises, video material, and case studies aim to stimulate these discussions, benefit the delegates, and support the formal presentation sessions. Above all, extensive use of case examples and case studies of issues has been personally involved.

The Attendees

This training course aims to ensure that decision-makers consider all possible environmental impacts when deciding whether or not to proceed with marine projects. Engineers working on marine projects and marine transportation need to be aware of the likely effects on the environment at the earliest possible time during the project's lifetime.

This training course will be valuable to professionals, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Pilots
  • Environmental Engineers
  • Civil Engineers
  • Coastal and Marine Structures Engineers
  • Port and Coastal Engineers
  • Project Managers
  • Project Engineers
