About the Course

The impact of fossil fuels on our modern world and our ever-increasing dependence on them has resulted in an endless quest for exploration and production. Today, oil & gas power our world in various critical functions, including transportation, power generation, and water desalination. Easy-to-find oil is now a phenomenon of the past, and it is necessary to traverse the planet both offshore and to greater depths to secure supplies.

This 5-day interactive Fundamentals of Exploration & Production training course examines the multi-disciplinary nature of petroleum exploration, technology, and production operations in the upstream oil & gas business, including geophysical and geological activities, exploration and development drilling, production methods and surface facilities as well as economic, geopolitical and sustainability considerations.

The oil & gas industry constantly evolves as economic conditions, technical competency, and advanced technologies emerge. It will highlight the basics of subsurface hydrocarbon exploration, development, and production using a system-based approach that integrates the multiple components of the petroleum supply chain. Delegates will learn about oilfield chemistry, petroleum geology, reservoir management practices, well drilling, completion, testing, producing operations, and facility planning. They will engage in practical case studies covering various types of hydrocarbon resources worldwide.

Core Objectives

The delegates will achieve the following objectives:

  • Recognise and understand basic geology and its relation to the formation and exploration of petroleum
  • Appreciate and understand the key drivers involved in the exploration process
  • Identify the stakeholders in the energy supply chain
  • Explore the global oil and gas industry to date and understand different types of oil companies
  • Understand the various fiscal and production-sharing agreements involved and the challenges and opportunities they present
Training Approach

This training course is a participatory learning experience that is both hands-on and interactive. It provides the delegates with many opportunities to advance their opinions and ideas. It will be facilitated in a supportive environment, ensuring that the concepts introduced during the course are well understood and comprehended, utilising various proven adult learning techniques to ensure maximum understanding, comprehension, and retention of the information presented.
