About the Course

The transition of a drilled well into a safe, reliable, and productive asset requires carefully engineered completion systems that can withstand reservoir conditions, support production objectives, maintain well integrity, and enable future intervention throughout the well lifecycle. Completion design decisions involving tubulars, packers, completion fluids, perforating, sand control, artificial lift interfaces, well barriers, and downhole equipment directly affect productivity, reliability, and intervention requirements. As wells mature, declining performance, mechanical failures, integrity problems, scale, corrosion, water or gas breakthrough, and equipment deterioration can require workover operations to restore production or maintain safe operating conditions. Effective completion and workover engineering therefore requires the integration of subsurface conditions, well architecture, equipment selection, operational planning, barrier management, and risk control.

This 5-day Well Completion and Workover Operations training course equips delegates with intermediate-to-advanced technical knowledge for designing, evaluating, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining well completion systems and planning effective workover operations. Delegates will strengthen their ability to select completion configurations and equipment, evaluate completion fluids and perforating strategies, address sand production, assess completion performance, diagnose well problems, establish workover objectives, select intervention methods, and manage well barriers throughout completion and workover activities. It also examines completion installation, tubing and packer systems, subsurface safety equipment, stimulation interfaces, completion failures, well integrity, workover fluids, well control, fishing and remedial operations, workover planning, and post-workover evaluation to improve production performance, operational reliability, and well lifecycle value.

Core Objectives

The delegates will achieve the following objectives:

  • Characterise reservoir, wellbore, and production conditions influencing completion and workover decisions
  • Configure completion systems and downhole equipment for different well environments and production requirements
  • Determine appropriate completion fluids, perforating, sand control, and production-enhancement strategies
  • Diagnose completion failures, production impairment, and well integrity problems requiring remedial intervention
  • Plan workover programmes incorporating operational requirements, well barriers, equipment, fluids, and risk controls
  • Resolve common workover challenges involving tubing, packers, downhole equipment, fishing, and remedial operations
  • Validate completion and workover performance against well integrity, production, reliability, and lifecycle objectives
Training Approach

This training course combines expert technical presentations, completion design exercises, well schematic interpretation, equipment selection activities, completion and workover case studies, well problem diagnosis, barrier verification exercises, workover planning scenarios, operational risk assessments, troubleshooting exercises, and collaborative technical problem-solving. Delegates will apply recognised completion and workover engineering practices to realistic well scenarios, enabling them to strengthen completion selection, operational planning, failure diagnosis, well integrity management, and workover decision-making capabilities.
