About the Course

This 5-day interactive Advanced Well Log Interpretation training course will highlight the techniques and principles for oil industry professionals dealing with wireline and LWD logs daily. Conventional and Unconventional Logging Tools in addition to primary and intermediate levels of petrophysical evaluation. It will discuss the concept of reservoir characterisation, its benefits for the oil business, and the theory behind different logging tools, acquisition, and detailed workflow of basic formation evaluation.

It will explore the tool's response, explained from their physical principles and their relationship with the rock and fluid properties; most existing open-hole logging technologies will be covered, describing their main applications and limitations. Advanced interpretation methods will be discussed with numerous examples and exercises, including complex lithology interpretation techniques. Likewise, it will discuss different approaches for estimating porosity and permeability using basic logging tools such as Density, Neutron, and Sonic and advanced logging tools such as nuclear magnetic resonance in integration with core data in case of availability. Different water saturation models (Archie, Indonesia, etc.) will be discussed in addition to how to estimate saturation exponent and its significant effects on estimated water saturation.

Furthermore, delegates will understand the theory of the NMR tool and the Geomicanal logs and their application in the oil & gas industry for both conventional and unconventional reservoirs.

Core Objectives

The delegates will achieve the following objectives:

  • Understand advanced logging tools and introduction to formation evaluation
  • Familiarised with different advanced logging tools in the oil market
  • Know the porosity and permeability models and their impact on reserve and production
  • Learn the workflow of the basic formation of fluid saturations and contacts
  • Understand the concept of net reservoir and net pay
  • Deliberate the integration with other disciplines such as Geology, Geophysics, Reservoir, and Petroleum Engineering
  • Understand the basic concepts review and resistivity tool
Training Approach

This training course will be conducted through classroom or virtual training in interactive and practical methods. There will be daily individual exercises, and everyone will get an opportunity to discuss their issues with the software or with the concept itself. There will be a PowerPoint Presentation to capture all notes and explain everything in detail, and a daily recap will be provided for maximum benefit for the delegates.
