Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is the internationally recognised engineering language used to communicate design intent accurately between design, manufacturing, inspection, and supply chain functions. When applied correctly, GD&T eliminates ambiguity, ensures that components meet their intended functional requirements, reduces unnecessary manufacturing costs, improves communication with suppliers, and provides an objective basis for product verification and acceptance. Conversely, incorrect or incomplete geometric specifications can result in functional failures, excessive tolerance costs, manufacturing disputes, inspection challenges, and costly rework during assembly. As manufacturing technologies, precision engineering, and global supply chains continue to evolve, organisations require engineers and technical professionals who can develop, interpret, and verify geometric specifications with confidence and consistency.
This 5-day Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) training course provides delegates with a systematic understanding of the principles, rules, and applications of modern geometric tolerancing in accordance with internationally recognised engineering practices. Delegates will develop the knowledge and practical skills to specify and interpret dimensional, form, orientation, location, runout, and profile controls; establish functional datum reference frames; apply material condition modifiers and bonus tolerances; and evaluate functional gauging requirements. It also explores surface texture specifications, metrology techniques, measurement uncertainty, Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) applications, measurement system analysis (MSA), and Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gauge R&R) studies to ensure reliable product verification. Through practical engineering examples, drawing reviews, and engineering case studies, delegates will strengthen their ability to produce, interpret, verify, and communicate precise geometric specifications that improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, inspection accuracy, and supplier collaboration.
