About the Course

This 5-day intensive Environmental and Social Safeguard Measures training course is developed to help project managers, environmental officers, and social safeguard specialists acquire practical skills and knowledge in implementing effective environmental and social safeguard measures at project closure. The project closure process, especially for a project with significant environmental and social impacts, is susceptible to proper compliance and requires meticulous planning to minimise the adverse effects and maximise positive community relations. It equips delegates with the capability of confidently and competently maneuvering the complexities. They will be able to check and apply Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and Social Impact Assessments (SIA) to ascertain that all the effects that were envisaged have been well managed and taken care of.

It will further assist delegates in developing and implementing comprehensive monitoring and reporting-based plans in line with environmental management techniques and tools for appropriate data collection and analysis. Impacts are wide, covering site rehabilitation and restoration, biodiversity conservation, waste management, and decommissioning, with high loads of best practice and regulatory compliance. This bankability also encapsulates the social safeguards process steps, which include the engagement of stakeholders, community developmental programs, and employment transition plans to ensure that the local community's expectations are satisfied. Delegates will also be equipped with the knowledge to implement and manage various grievance redress mechanisms in response to rising issues.

Delegates can develop a detailed document for closure and a transparent and accountable report. It will also be in an excellent position to capture lessons learned and share best practices, thus enabling them to better manage future projects with environmental and social safeguards. In this regard, the program will offer a solid foundation in basic principles and aspects of project closure to ensure delegates are well prepared to manage their projects' environmental and social aspects successfully.
