About the Course

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) issued its first code in 1914. ASME’s Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) has created many standards and codes to improve safety and technology to meet the needs of a changing world. Thousands of copies of the BPVC are in use in more than 100 countries across the globe.

ASME PVB Section II is a “Reference/Service Section” for materials for many BPVC construction code Sections providing tables of material properties, including allowable stresses (S), design formulas, tensile and yield stress values, physical properties at different temperatures and external pressure charts and tables.

ASME Section PVB Code section II -Materials is the heart of ASME CODES. Inside it, you can find materials data about ferrous and nonferrous materials specifications and welding & brazing consumables used by the Code section. This code consists of 4 parts (A, B, C & D), which will be explained deeply during the programme using case studies.

This ASME BPV Code, Section II: Materials training course will enable the delegates to professionally review the Material test certificates (MTC) for many materials forms such as forgings, wrought materials, plates, pipes and welding electrodes/filler metals. Moreover, it will help the piping & pressure vessel designers use ASME II Part D for further design calculations.

Core Objectives

This training course will provide the delegates with knowledge on how to easily pass and obtain the API 570 authorized process piping inspector certification.

The delegates will achieve the following objectives:

  • Learn how to review the MTC/MTR material test certificates for ferrous and nonferrous materials
  • Know about the common terminology used in the descriptions of materials, i.e., heat #, lot, and terms related to chemical and mechanical properties, assist in understanding materials for ASME Section II analysis, steel ingots, castings, heat treatment, etc.
  • Understand the ability to review the welding consumables certificates
  • Know the main common materials specifications used in fabrication sites/workshops
  • Use the design tables and charts in ASME II-D efficiently
  • Know about the standard welding consumables used in the industry
  • Learn about the primary piping dimension standards, i.e., ASME B16, B36
Training Approach

This training course will combine presentations with instructor-guided interactive discussions between delegates about their interests. Practical exercises, video material and case studies to stimulate these discussions and provide maximum benefit to them that will support the formal presentation sessions.

The Attendees

This training course is an excellent programme for persons whose work activity requires them to review the material specifications in Section II, especially in oil & gas and nuclear facilities. Engineers are involved with the procurement, inspection, approval and control of materials and using the material information in the design.

This training course will be valuable to professionals, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Welding & Piping Engineers
  • Pressure Vessels Engineers
  • Corrosion Engineers
